One of the valuable lessons I’ve learned on my hockey journey has been the importance of Community Service.
Giving back can be as simple as recognizing young players waiting patiently for a high-five as we walk to or from the ice. Some of those same players had been on the ice at learn-to-skate sessions where I was helping get those players of tomorrow off on the right skate.
For me, the most rewarding has been serving as a goaltending coach for youth goalies in several programs. That has given me the opportunity to work with youth goalies in the Franklin County Hockey Association, the Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds and this past season, on Cape Cod.
Giving back to my community has become part of my hockey DNA and that is something that gives back to me as well as to the young players that I am fortunate enough to mentor.
